I’m a professional drummer and music teacher. I specialise in mobile drum lessons and have been playing live gigs as a drummer for over 10 years.
No drum lessons in 2021 – I’m taking 12 months off to learn new skills.
I really enjoy playing, performing and teaching. I started teaching while completing my studies for a Bachelor of Applied Music (Performance) at Box Hill Institute. Over the last three years I have developed a passion for teaching drum lessons to students of all ages. I want as many students as possible to enjoy learning and playing drums as much as I do!
I started learning to play drums in Grade 5 at the age of 10 and studied under well-known Geelong drummer Kevin Simmonds. My first performance experience was during my high school years forming bands with other friends who played instruments. We would busk and do gigs around the Bellarine Peninsula. I joined the school concert band and Geelong West Brass Band where my ability to read music was essential. West Geelong Brass band are an award winning top tier band with a very professional approach.
After high school I went from playing in and around my local area to doing gigs in and around Melbourne. Most of these groups were bands I had started playing with in high school and included Mischevious Thom (Alt Rock), Murdena (Country/Americana) and Genghis Can’t Swim (Alt Rock). I gained valuable performance and recording experience over this time.
I successfully completed my Bachelor of Applied Music (Performance) at Box Hill Institute in 2016, winning the Outstanding Drummer Award for my year. This included studying under renowned Melbourne drummers Dave Beck, Tony Floyd and Robi Parolin. They helped me develop my playing to a very high level and they each had their own approach to teaching which I have gained valuable insight from.
At the moment my main projects are Fulton Street (Funk/Soul), Po Boys(Funk/Soul) and Prickly Pear (Jazz). I do regular fill-in gigs with other bands and have just started playing in theatre shows around Melbourne. I’m enjoying teaching students of all ages (4-50+) in primary schools around the Eastern Suburbs and at Bianca Fenn School of Music in Greensborough.
